It was also important for us to be known as an honest, reputable shop given the negative image associated with the auto repair industry. In August of 2006, we opened our second location, Independence Complete Auto Service. We operate this location with the same goals and values people have come to expect from our company.

Building on the same principles that have worked for us for the past 6 years, in June of 2010, we opened up our third metro location, Main Street Complete Auto Service.

Batteries
 
Your car's starting and charging systems and the battery help ensure dependable vehicle operation whenever you drive your car and in all sorts of driving conditions. Make sure to have our professionals check these systems regularly.
 
Your car battery stores electrical energy and the starter converts that energy into mechanical force to turn the engine for starting. The alternator produces electric current to replace what the starter used from the battery during start-up and to support electrical loads when the engine is running.
 
Driving habits such as frequent engine on/off cycles will cause more wear on the starter than a simple trip back and forth to work. Other factors include:
 
• Driving in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Mileage
• Vehicle Age
• Extensive electrical draws like in-vehicle entertainment systems

Starters/Alternators
 
What generates most of the electricity in your vehicle is not the battery, but the alternator.
 
The alternator transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy. It sends power to essential parts of your vehicle like the headlights, the engine fan, ignition coils and various parts of the fuel injection system. It powers non-essential, but still very important, parts like the radio and air conditioning system.
 
It's important to have your alternator checked regularly because it's not always readily apparent when it fails. It can fail in stages and even when it goes completely, your battery will take over for a short period of time.
 
The starter does the opposite of the alternator. It changes electrical energy into mechanical energy. The starter uses the electricity from the battery to start the crankshaft turn, and that gets your car going.
 
The electrical systems of today's cars are complex. Your alternator, starter, ignition and battery are all crucial to your car's performance and, more importantly, its safety. More and more of today's vehicles are being controlled by onboard computers. The electrical system is more important than ever.

Engine Diagnostics
 
What does the "Check Engine Light" mean?
 
Today, most cars are controlled by computers. The fuel injectors, the spark plugs, the steering system and more are all told when to fire and when to move by an onboard computer system.
 
Modern vehicles come equipped with an onboard computer diagnostic system (OBDII) that monitors your vehicle's operations. The OBD II system monitors emissions control systems. That means the monitors can detect anything from a loose fuel cap to a clogged catalytic converter. An illuminated check engine light means that the driver should have the vehicle checked as soon as possible; a flashing check engine light means that the driver should park and shut off the vehicle immediately - before serious engine or emissions system damage occurs.
 
If something's going wrong with your car or engine, your onboard computer can tell you about it. If the computer senses something is wrong with one of your car's systems, it will turn on a dashboard light, like "ABS Brakes" or something less specific, like "Check Engine."

Transmissions
 
Transmission repair is a major, time-consuming, and most often, expensive automotive repair.
 
That's why it's so important to keep your transmission properly maintained.

The most important thing you can do is change your transmission fluid. This is important because over time, as your transmission wears, bits of metal from the gears will contaminate the fluid. In addition, the extreme heat generated by an automatic transmission will cause the fluid to break down.
 
We recommend following your vehicle manufacturer's maintenance schedule for complete and proper care of your vehicle. However, it's important to check your fluid levels every time you have your oil changed. Low fluid levels can seriously damage your transmission.
 
Regularly scheduled maintenance service can help you avoid costly repairs—especially when it comes to transmission repair.

Tune Ups
 
Your car's engine is made up of hundreds of complex components working together to ensure that your vehicle starts and runs properly. Over time, however, these components can wear out, resulting in a loss of performance and fuel economy.
 
The nature of an engine "tune-up" has changed considerably over the years, but the basics of how a gasoline engine works has not. Clean gas and air needs to be driven to the vehicle's cylinders where combustion initiated by a spark plug creates the power necessary to move a heavy vehicle. Clogged fuel injectors, dirty air and fuel filters, worn-out oil, and corroded spark plugs can all decrease engine performance and contribute to decreased gas mileage and performance. That's why we examine your vehicle's air filter when you stop in, and why we recommend that you follow manufacturer's recommendations for replacing such key components as fuel filters, PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valves and spark plugs when they are no longer working at maximum efficiency.
 
A standard tune-up, or spark plug replacement, done at the suggested maintenance interval will make an engine easier to start, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and restore lost power.
 
Another (often overlooked) service designed to help your vehicle's engine run properly is the cleaning of fuel injectors and the fuel intake system. When dirt and deposits collect on fuel injectors, the amount of fuel delivered to the engine is restricted, leading to deterioration in performance and responsiveness. Our trained technicians can perform a Fuel System Cleaning that will remove these deposits and help your vehicle maximize its performance and gas mileage capabilities.
 
Regular maintenance of your vehicle's fuel ignition system is the key to reliability, fuel efficiency and effective engine performance. From fixing a fuel system problem when it occurs, to helping you prevent one from happening in the future.

Timing Belts and Timing Chains
 
The timing belt turns the camshaft(s) at exactly half the speed of the crankshaft while keeping a precise alignment, ensuring that the crankshaft will make two revolutions for every camshaft revolution. Every engine has at least one camshaft; some have as many as four. The camshaft itself causes the intake and exhaust valves to open and close in time with the pistons that move up and down in the cylinders. The valves have to open and close at precisely the right time in relationship to the piston movement so that your engine will run properly. If the timing is off, so is your ride, and if the timing is off for long, you could blow your engine.
 
Checking your timing belt can be as hard as replacing it yourself. Timing belts can fail without warning, so your only real protection is to change them at your car manufacturer's recommended intervals.
 
We have all manufacturer recommended service information, and timing belt replacement is just one of the many repair services our trained, tested and top-of-the-line technicians can perform. With the use of our engine diagnostic testing we can tell if you might also need a water pump replacement at the same time, which is very common.
 
We always recommend checking the water pump at the same time because the bulk of the labor needed to change your water pump is the same labor needed to replace your belt, so you end up saving a lot of money.

Alignments
 
There are times when you can feel your vehicle's alignment is off: your vehicle may pull to one side of the road when you're trying to go straight; maybe the steering wheel is not in the starting position; or when you're turning, your tires might squeal. But sometimes the alignment problem is so subtle you can't even feel it.
 
Symptoms or not, misalignment can really do some damage to your tires by prematurely wearing them out. We can verify the condition of your vehicle's steering and suspension components and set your alignment angles to manufacturer's specifications to keep you driving right.

Fuel Pumps and Fuel Systems
 
Generally located in the fuel tank, the fuel pump, which nowadays is usually electric, simply pumps fuel from your gasoline tank to your engine. The pump creates pressure in the fuel lines that pushes the gasoline to the engine. Unused fuel is returned to the fuel tank. In most cars the fuel pump delivers a constant flow of gasoline to the engine. When the flow becomes less constant, your car starts acting sluggish or just stops acting altogether. We have trained technicians that can diagnose all of your fuel system needs.

Radiators and Water Pumps
 
The job of your radiator is to keep coolant flowing throughout your engine. If there's a block or a leak, your engine can quickly overheat and your vehicle will break down.
 
Coolant leaks are caused by cracked or ill-fitting hoses or a hole in the radiator itself. Radiator metal is thin and easily damaged, but the number-one cause of coolant leaks is corrosion. The number-one cause of corrosion is a lack of routine maintenance.
 
We recommend having your coolant system professionally inspected at least once a year.
 
A flush and fill is a critical part of routine maintenance. Antifreeze (coolant) is very caustic. Left in the radiator for too long, it will begin to corrode the metal, and it could cause a potentially disastrous leak.
 
If we detect any coolant leaks we can repair them or replace the damaged part.
